Resilience has been the defining force in my journey. A few years ago, I found myself questioning whether I would even survive the harsh winters of New Brunswick as a freshman. The cold air made it difficult to breathe, and my health was a growing concern. I struggled with even the simplest physical activities—running a few blocks left me gasping for air, my chest tightening as if I were suffocating. I was weak, and I didn’t realize how bad it was until a medical check-up confirmed I was dangerously close to needing oxygen support.
At the time, I was filled with doubt and uncertainty. Would I ever regain my health? Would I ever be able to do something as simple as jog without feeling like I was pushing my body to its limit? It was a daunting reality, one that made me question my future.
Then, there was Mark Lasanowski from MtA—his words stayed with me. He reassured me that my health was the priority, reminding me that education would always be there, and that he’d keep sending fresh admission letters when I was ready. His support, along with my unwavering determination, fueled my resolve to fight for my health.
The Road to Recovery

Determined to reclaim my health, I made a decision to take fitness seriously. It wasn’t an easy journey—I had to start small. I began with regular walks, light jogging, and breathing exercises to strengthen my lungs. I made it a habit to drink more water, eat healthier, and go for regular check-ups to monitor my progress.
I also started training with professionals, people who understood what it meant to push limits safely. With each session, my endurance improved, and my body adapted to the demands I placed on it. I learned to listen to my body, rest when needed, and stay consistent. Slowly but surely, I could run longer distances without feeling like I was suffocating.
Meeting New People Along the Way

One of the best parts of this journey was the incredible people I met. The fitness community is filled with individuals who share similar struggles and aspirations. Whether it was during my early morning runs or training sessions at the gym, I encountered people who motivated me, shared their experiences, and encouraged me to keep going. Some were marathon veterans, while others, like me, were just beginning their journey to a healthier lifestyle.
Their stories of resilience inspired me. Seeing others who had overcome injuries, illnesses, and personal struggles reminded me that I was not alone. The camaraderie made training enjoyable and kept me accountable. I wasn’t just training for myself—I was becoming part of a bigger movement, one that celebrated growth, discipline, and perseverance.
The 10K Marathon: A Dream Come True

Fast forward to today, and I have just completed a 10K marathon. Years of doubt, struggle, and perseverance have led to this moment. Crossing the finish line felt surreal—a testament to what the human spirit can achieve when it refuses to give up.
As I made my way to the race, something incredible happened. The ride passed right in front of DHC Canada’s office, a place that once symbolized a different chapter in my life. It felt like the universe was sending me a message—reminding me how far I’ve come, confirming that this was my time, that I was exactly where I needed to be.
The marathon itself was challenging, but every step I took reminded me of the battles I had fought and won. There were moments when fatigue tried to creep in, but I pushed through, fueled by the determination to finish what I had started. Every drop of sweat, every aching muscle, and every breath I took was proof that I had overcome what once seemed impossible.
Lessons Learned

This experience has reinforced a lesson I will carry forever: Anything is possible. No matter how difficult the journey, no matter how many obstacles stand in the way—if you keep pushing forward, you will get there. Never give up.
I’ve learned that success doesn’t come overnight. It takes preparation, dedication, and a willingness to embrace the discomfort that comes with growth. It takes showing up every day, even when you don’t feel like it, and believing that each small effort adds up to something greater.
Today, I am stronger, healthier, and more confident than I’ve ever been. The road ahead is still long, but I now know that no challenge is insurmountable. If I could go from struggling to breathe to completing a 10K marathon, then truly, the future looks bright. 💪
